How To Teach ChatGPT Emotions

w/ Examples

Ever scrolled past a text without a second glance? You're not alone.

These days, attention is the new currency, and emotionless text is like trying to pay with Monopoly money.

Here's the harsh truth: if your writing doesn't grab attention and stir emotions, it might as well not exist. No eyes on the page means, no one is reading your mails, no one cares about your memo. Let’s just say your brilliant ideas die in the darkness.

But don't worry: Adding an emotional punch to your writing isn't just possible—it's effortless if you use the prompts I’m sharing today.

Ready? Great, let’s dive in!

How To
Add Emotion To Written Text

I’m going to share 3 prompts with you. I extracted these prompts from a master storyteller Shaan Puri based on a podcast interview.

Shaan believes that attention is king. And the only way to get people’s attention is by tapping into their emotion emotions:

  • OMG: it makes people feel amazed or startled.

  • LOL: it makes people laugh or find something funny.

  • WTF: it leaves people baffled or frustrated.

If you’re interested, you can watch the full podcast episode on YouTube. If not, let’s look at the prompts together.

1/ Trigger the LOL

Think humor is just for comedians? Think again. Laughter is the secret sauce that transforms bland writing into content people actually want to read.

Why does it work? Because humor creates an instant connection. It's like a social lubricant for your writing, breaking down barriers faster than you can say "knock-knock."

Ever noticed how you remember jokes way better than facts? That's the power of LOL in action.

Here's a prompt that will add LOL emotion to any given text.

Your task is to analyze the piece_of_text and consider how it can be modified or enhanced to evoke a certain emotion.

<piece_of_text>
[Paste your text here]
</piece_of_text>

<emotion>
LOL: Makes people laugh or find something funny.
</emotion>

Provide two specific suggestions on how the piece_of_text can be modified or enhanced to evoke the emotion. Your suggestions should be practical, actionable, and relevant to the original content.

Present your suggestions in the following format
Emotion: [Emotion]
1. [First suggestion]
2. [Second suggestion]

It's imperative that your suggestions:
* are specific and tailored to the piece_of_text
* maintain the original intent and message of the writing
* Are realistic and implementable
* Do not completely change the core content, but rather enhance or modify it.

Here's an example: I’m writing mail to my co-worker Sarah. It’s important stuff and I want to make sure she reads till the end. I used ChatGPT to write an initial email but it’s just meh.

Subject: Update on This Week's Work

Hi Sarah,

I hope you're doing well.

I wanted to let you know that, unfortunately, I won't be able to deliver all of the work I had planned for this week. I've run into some unexpected delays that have set me back more than I anticipated.

I'm working to prioritize the most critical tasks, and I'll do my best to complete as much as possible. However, some items might have to be carried over into next week. I'll keep you updated on my progress and will let you know as soon as possible which tasks might be delayed.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding. If there's anything specific you'd like me to focus on or if you need to discuss how to adjust our timelines, please feel free to reach out.

Thanks for your support.

Best regards,
[Your Name]

The solution? Grabs her attention with LOL.

2/ Spark the OMG

Picture this: You're scrolling mindlessly through your feed when suddenly—BAM!—something stops you dead in your tracks. That's the OMG factor at work.

  • A bad example: "AI can process large amounts of data quickly." Yawn.

  • A good example: "This AI just wrote a novel in 0.03 seconds. And it's on the New York Times bestseller list."

See the difference? The second one makes your jaw drop. It taps into our deep-seated fear of being replaced and our awe at technological progress.

Here's the psychology: Our brains are wired to pay attention to the extraordinary. By triggering that OMG response, you're essentially hacking your reader's attention.

BTW: You can use the same prompt from the previous example. Just change LOL into OMG.

3/ Unleash the WTF

Ready for a mind-bender? Meet the "Confusion-Clarity Technique." It's a rollercoaster ride for your reader's brain, and it works like magic.

Take Gary Vee, for example. He once tweeted: "The ROI of your mother is zero." WTF, right? But then he explained how you can't measure everything in business by immediate financial return. Mind. Blown.

Here's how it works:

  1. Drop a confusing statement

  2. Let it simmer

  3. Provide clarity that shifts perspective

Why is this so effective? It creates cognitive dissonance. Your brain hates confusion and will work overtime to resolve it. When you provide the resolution, it's like a mental reward.

The real-world impact? Just look at Elon Musk's tweets. Half the time, they make no sense at first. But they get millions of engagements because people are desperate to figure out what the heck he means.

Last Words

Ready to emotionally supercharge your writing? Let's recap:

  1. LOL: Make'em laugh to make'em stick around

  2. OMG: Shock them out of their scrolling stupor

  3. WTF: Confuse to engage, then enlighten to amaze

Now go forth and make writing so emotionally charged, that people will swear it was written by a caffeinated human at 2 AM. Your readers' emotions are waiting—don't let them down!
